Other Characters Played: None.

Character: Mihael "Mello" Keehl
Series/Fandom: Death Note
Original or Template version: Original

Age: 21
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Sexuality: Bisexual
Apt.: E 3-9
Marked: No

Appearance: Mello has thick blond hair cut to his chin with a heavy fringe above his eyes. One side of his face is marred with a massive burn scar. He is slight of build, but toned and not frail. The rest of his skin is pale and smooth and he was fairly good-looking before the explosion that marred his features.

He is 5 ft 7 in tall and weighs only 115 lbs so he is underweight and lean.

Personality: Mello is extremely smart and often does things that seem rash and impulsive to others, until they sit down to analyze his plans; when it shows he is actually extremely intelligent. Unlike Near or L, he acts on emotion and will let his hatred of Near beating him dictate his actions. His main driving force in life is that he is in line to be L's successor - behind Near and he despises being second best.

Abilities/Strengths: Mello is extremely intelligent and he uses it to get what he wants. He is quick-thinking and adaptable and so can deal with situations presented to him easily. He is very competitive and full of life and energy as well as a strong determination to see his plans through to the end - even at cost to himself. Also, if he absolutely has to - he will back down and allow someone else to take the "Number One" crown if it furthers a group initiative so when it comes to crunch time, he is willing to sacrifice his ego.

Weaknesses: He is very emotional and works off of hotheadedness - using very alternative tactics to achieve his goals. This can be seen as a strength, but it often causes other people's well-laid plans to be thrown off course. He can also be somewhat spiteful and in life had ties with an L.A.-based mafia; so his morals are a little less than stellar. He has murdered without blinking or even pausing to stop chewing an ever-present chocolate bar.

History:

[Spoilers for Death Note follow]

Mihael was orphaned at a very young age and found by Quillsh Wammy and taken to the Wammy's House Orphanage to be raised. This was no ordinary orphanage - it was a place where extremely gifted young orphans were taken to be raised and to hone their abilities. As the children in this orphanage adopted nicknames, Mihael went by 'Mello'. Mello was very, very skilled and looked up to L (Lawliet), wanting to be like him some day - to even surpass him someday and he fought with Near to be named L's successor. To his dismay, he always seemed to come in second place to the cold and almost emotionless Near.

This bred in him his burning desire to be first, to be known as the world's greatest detective and to beat all others to this goal. Mello made friends easily (much more easily than the loner, Near) and refused to be used by the other as 'a tool to finish his puzzle'. When the news of L's death reached the Wammy's House, it was he and Near who were called to be informed. Mello was distraught and demanded to know who his idol had chosen to be his successor. Sadly - L had died before being able to choose - so it was left open. Mello glared at Near and said he'd never work with him when it was suggested and he decided to leave the orphanage that day, never to return.

He made his way to America and the L.A. area and got involved with a mafia gang. He was very highly respected among their top crooks as his advice and insights never steered them wrong, only increasing their wealth and notoriety. He indulged himself in women, chocolate and material things. All of this paled in comparison to his desire for taking L's place and stepping over Near. He hated that the 'new L' was a fake, Light having assumed the role in an attempt by the Japanese Task Force to conceal L's death, looking for ways to expose him and bring him down.

He and his mafia then kidnapped the Japanese Police Director and ransomed him for the notebook. Light, as Kira, killed the director to stop them being able to do this. Mello, in true manipulative fashion, then kidnapped Sayu Yagami. He did not know "L" was Light Yagami, but he knew Chief Yagami was involved in the Kira investigation. Using Sayu, he managed to wheedle Chief Yagami and Light into giving up the Note. They tested it by killing one of their own members (who had been stealing their drugs and selling them on the side) and took it, releasing the Yagamis.

After this, Mello's gang had instilled a desire in the Chief to take them down for what they did to his daughter and because they were now using the Note themselves to wipe out their rivals. Light led a charge against them and killed many of their gang. Mello now, however, knew of Shinigami as Shidoh had come to the human realm to look for his lost Note. Shidoh had been told to guard the entrance as anyone who had not touched the note in the gang's possession could not see him - but the Shinigami was told by Ryuk not to warn them and he'd get his Note back.

This proved Mello's downfall - the Taskforce got in and led by Chief Yagami (who had now traded for the eyes with Ryuk) - killed all of his gang barring him and Jose. Mello escaped to a secured room but Yagami got the Note. He got into the room with Mello and Mello's world crashed around his ears as Yagami (spurred on by radio contact with Light) read his name. "Mihael Keehl". He started to write his name, but Yagami was a good man and couldn't kill like that. He was then mortally wounded by multiple shots from Jose. Mello, cornered, blew up the building and escaped - but was left badly scarred with one half of his face burned away.

Yagami then died before being able to write the name and Mello lived on. After this, he knew he was in danger and started to manipulate things with the aid of his friend, Matt. Matt had been after Mello in the line of succession for L.

He made contact with Halle Lidner in the SPK (run by Near) and kept up with the investigation through her leaks to him. He came face-to-face once more with Near and took the only remaining photograph left of him in the world in exchange for telling Near about the Shinigami and the fake rule. The fake rule erased the belief of Light's innocence and they started to suspect him of being the replacement L. Kira was running the Japanese Taskforce, which explained their ineptness to capture the mass murderer.

Near laid plans, but Mello had his own and he kidnapped Kiyomi Takada, Kira's "spokeswoman" and subsequently caused his accomplice, Matt's death. Matt's death caused a great deal of pain to Mello; but he continued with his plan. Takada had been told of Mello's real name by Light and she recognised him and wrote his name in the Death Note - killing him by heart attack.

Even though he'd died (and knowing it was highly likely he was going to) - he had done so giving Near the clue he needed to defeat Light and so bring down Kira. Mello's information mixed with Near's plan eventually made them stronger than the original L and he helped rid the world of Kira.
